30 Ecuadorian citizens deported on repatriation flight

In a joint action by the Panamanian Government, with the support of the United States of America, which reaffirms the commitment between both nations to continue the Memorandum of Understanding between both countries, a total of 30 citizens of Ecuadorian nationality were deported to their country of origin on Thursday, August 29.

With this first flight to Ecuador, the Panama-United States agreement to combat illegal migration continues.

The foreigners left Panama from the Marcos A. Gelabert Airport, located in Albrook, bound for the Eloy Alfaro International Airport, located in the city of Manta, Ecuador.

In this case, the Ecuadorians have been deported for evading a checkpoint, in an irregular manner via the Darien route.

According to official data, between January and August 2023, 324,204 people crossed the Darien jungle. In the same period in 2024, to date the number has been 236,621 irregular migrants, which represents a decrease of more than 85,000 citizens, which is equivalent to a variation of 27 percent.

This operational action has been possible thanks to the inter-institutional collaboration between the Ministry of Security, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the National Aeronaval Service and the National Migration Service.

The security of nationals and foreigners residing in the country is a priority commitment of the SNM.
