The steering wheel of the Rayo Vallecano James Rodriguez and the forward Liverpool’s Luis Diaz, lead the list of players with whom Colombia will face Peru and Argentina in the next two matches of the South American qualifiers for the 2026 World Cup in Mexico, Canada and the United States.
Within the list of those called up by the Argentine Nestor Lorenzo, Colombia coach has called up Juventus defender Juan David Cabal.
Regarding the squad that came out runners-up in the Copa América in the United States, David Ospina, Deiver Machado, Matheus Uribe, Jorge Carrascal, Miguel Borja and Davinson Sánchez were left out, some due to injuries and others due to technical reasons.
Lorenzo, who announced his chosen players on Thursday, has faith in James, who has not yet made his debut with Rayo Vallecano, and hopes that although he “lacks playing time” he can continue to be a key player for the team.
In the double date of the South American qualifiers, Colombia will visit Peru at the National Stadium, match to be played on September 6. On the 10th, the Colombian team will host Argentina in Barranquilla.
The Selection will concentrate on Barranquilla From August 31 to September 4, the national team will then travel to Lima on Thursday 5 to face Peru.
Once the match in Lima is over, Lorenzo’s team will return to Colombia to prepare for the match against Argentina.
Colombia, with 12 points, is in third place in the South American qualifiers for the 2026 World Cup behind Argentina (15) and Uruguay (13).
