“I don’t think it’s accurate (that decisions are not made due to political interference), they are not political decisions because we are doing technical analysis. Petroperú’s political decisions were made before, I don’t want to say when, but it is known that Petroperú was used by other governments as a petty cash box, we are not doing that,” he said.

Regarding the options the oil company would have to turn around its situation, Adrianzen told RPP: “Perhaps a loan that can be recovered now that the Talara Refinery is producing or opening new markets, having a new and more efficient administration.”

We don’t hold anyone back

The Prime Minister also referred to statements made by Petroperú’s president, Oliver Stark, to a local media outlet, on the demand that the Executive make a decision on the company or the members of the board would step aside. Adrianzén responded that “they cannot retain anyone.”

“The gentlemen are free to do so, I do not believe that this will happen, and even less so when we are sitting down to analyze solutions. We cannot retain anyone if they do not want to continue to support this effort. We call for unity,” he clarified.

Meeting

Regarding the meeting that Adrianzén himself had boasted the day before would be key to making a decision, he said that no conclusion had yet been reached and described the meeting as “preliminary in nature.”

“We have had the opportunity to hear from the board of directors of Petroperú what the situation of the company is and I will tell you how it is: It is worrying and requires prompt intervention. We are considering how the intervention should take place. There is a plan that has to do with corporate restructuring, it has to do with governance and options that are directly related to the administration of the company,” he concluded.
