News Colombia

The Colombian Truck Drivers Association has called for a national strike to be held this Friday, August 30th, starting at 6:00 am, in protest against the increase in the price of fuel announced by the National Government. The locations where the strike will take place were announced.

Finance Minister Ricardo Bonilla had previously reported that The price of diesel will increase by $6,000, distributed in three semi-annual increments of approximately $2,000 each.

The strike will have caravans in various regions of the country and expect the participation of other transport sectors, including urban and inter-city buses, tourist routes and school transport.

Protesters have said the increase in fuel prices could lead to freight rates increasing by between 21% and 30% of their current value.

The concentration points for the strike are established in 19 cities Colombians according to Red+ News:

  • Bogota: Fontibón Beach at 6:00 am
  • Cali: Closing at 6:00 am

José Milcíades Carrero, former president of the Colombian Association of Truck Drivers Regional Valle, told Blu Radio that “If the price of fuel increases, inflation will logically skyrocket.

That is a tale and a lie when the Government says that it will only affect 1.4% in terms of inflation. That is not true, and those who have to pay the increase later are all of us in the shops.

The Inter-United Transport Chamber “Unidos” has also called for caravans to be held in all municipalities of the country starting at 8:00 a.m.

Furthermore, the possibility of a cessation of activities from 1 September 2024 has been announced, if the increase in the price of diesel fuel materialises as announced.
