The Ombudsman, Pedro Callisaya Aro, announced this Wednesday that the ombudsman’s institution is monitoring the criminal process that was initiated by the leader of the heavy transport, Juan Yujra, who is currently being held in cells of the Special Force to Fight Crime (Felcc) in the capital of Santa Cruz.

Callisaya asked the courts to respect Yujra’s rights and demanded that the Public Prosecutor’s Office and the Police safeguard their physical integrity, in addition to guaranteeing the freedom of expression of the transporters.

“As the Ombudsman’s Office, we are following up on the case of the arrest of citizen Juan Yujra. The right to protest as a manifestation of freedom Freedom of expression is a fundamental pillar of democracy; it must be safeguarded to ensure that it does not affect the rights of third parties. We hope that the judicial authority will evaluate these premises within the framework of due process,” said Callisaya.

Yujra was transferred on Wednesday morning to the offices of the Special Force to Fight Crime (Felcc), when I had just arrived at the Palmasola refinery of Yacimientos Petrolíferos Fiscales Bolivianos (YPFB) to give a press conference.

His lawyer, Fernando Vaca, reported that the Prosecutor’s Office ordered the arrest of the leader for the alleged crimes of criminal association, attack on the freedom of work and attack on the freedom of services.

After learning of Yujra’s arrestCallisaya mobilized to find out about the situation of the leader. Likewise, He recalled that the right to protest is a fundamental value of democracy, as long as it does not affect the rights of third parties

Declaration of Yujra

In his statement before the Prosecutor’s Office, the leader of the heavy transport denied having prevented the entry of tankers to the Palmasola refinery and said that he was summoned by the Association of Tankers (ASTIC) to give a press conference.

Yujra said that he came to the refinery to publicly denounce that YPFB officials prevented Tanker drivers enter with their cell phones to refuel, for fear that they would supposedly film images of the place.

“That was the annoyance and that’s why they called me up. to give a press conference at 06:00 to make known the abuses of YPFB,” said the leader.

In addition, Yujra said that when he was leaving the refinery he was intercepted by Felcc police, who asked him to park on the side of the street, then they got him out of his vehicle and They “handcuffed him like a criminal””.

Fernando Vaca questioned the arrest of his client by pointing out that this Wednesday He was summoned by his bases to give a conference press and ruled out that tankers had been prevented from entering to load fuel.

According to the lawyer, a YPFB official filed the formal complaint against Juan Yujra and, for this reason, the Felcc agents mobilized to arrest him and transfer him to cells in that police department.

Now, the heavy transport leader will spend the night in police cells waiting for the Prosecutor’s Office to present the charges against him and be brought before a judge in a precautionary hearing which will possibly take place on Thursday, August 28.
