The Ministry of Health informs the population that, to date, since last April, no case of monkeypox (Mpox) has been registered in the country. This clarification is made in response to the circulation of a video on social networks and some media outlets that has generated concern.
The entity indicates that a male patient of Haitian nationality presented himself at a medical center in the province of Azua on Monday, the 26th of this year, presenting symptoms of fever for five days and skin lesions on the right cheekbone and neck.
Following a thorough medical evaluation and specific testing, it was confirmed that the patient has facial herpes zoster and not monkeypox.
This diagnosis is based on the characteristic clinical symptoms of herpes zoster, which include the appearance of papules and pustules in localized areas of the skin. Health authorities acted quickly to rule out any possibility of monkeypox and ensure adequate care for the patient.
In a statement, the organization reiterated that epidemiological surveillance has been increased throughout the country, following the recommendations of the World Health Organization (WHO), which urges all member countries to take the necessary measures to prevent the spread of monkeypox.
In addition, citizens are informed that the country has vaccines available and a health system prepared to respond to any eventuality.
The Ministry is also actively monitoring the situation and will continue to take all necessary measures to protect the health of the population.
