What are the work preferences of young Colombians, according to a study?

81% of young Colombians aspire to work abroad. This was revealed by the study ‘The heartbeat of youth in Colombia’, conducted by the consulting firm SmartPR, which consulted 1,000 young people in the country about their goals, concerns and aspirations in their personal and professional lives.

According to the study, the idea of ​​working outside of Colombia is based on young people’s desire to grow more professionally, have enriching cultural experiences and a better quality of life.

Regarding the destination for emigrating, 37% of young people consider Europe as their main destination. One fifth of those surveyed think of the United States and 20% prefer Canada.

These are destinations that, according to the perception of those surveyed, offer more stable work environments and more favorable development opportunities.“, the consultant explained.

Regarding how they perceive Colombia, 74.5% of those surveyed say that the country is not a territory that offers guarantees and conditions for entrepreneurship, since, “From their perception, they do not find financial support“.

The SmartPR study also reveals that 47.7% of young people are very interested in working as an ‘influencer’,A decision that is being motivated by the visibility, recognition and economic potential that this profession offers.“.

As to whether they prefer the public or private sector, 68.1% opt for private companies, well “Young people consider that it offers dynamic and innovative work environments, in which they can also access other types of benefits and bonuses, which can have a positive impact on their quality of life.“.

Other important conclusions are that 62.6% aspire to obtain a permanent contract, 65.5% want to develop a business and 71% already have an idea in mind that they are implementing.
