Collective investment funds already exceed $130 billion

At the end of July, the collective investment fund (FIC) industry reached resources managed by $130 billion, a figure that constituted a historical record.

FICs are investment vehicles that allow access to different capital market instruments such as fixed-income securities, variable income (shares) and alternative products without requiring large sums or investments.

He said reaching the $100 billion mark under management by the sector had been seen as an important milestone. He clarified that although this figure had been exceeded at different times, due to different circumstances there had been setbacks.

However, during 2024, not only was this figure exceeded in the FICs, but historic amounts were being recorded every month. This is how at the end of the seventh month of 2024 the sector reached $130 billion in assets under management, an unprecedented figure representing a growth of 4% compared to June and 28% compared to the same month last year.

For their part, the FICs that are categorized grew 36% in the annual comparison compared to 16% for those that are not part of the scheme. Regarding the number of investors, the FICs reach 2,351,244, where 99% corresponds to natural persons.

So far this year, 53,775 investors have joined, This demonstrates the attractiveness of this financial product at a time when traditional vehicles such as CDTs and savings accounts have been seeing a decrease in the yields offered.

By category, the growth of balanced funds with moderate and higher risk stands out, whose diversified alternatives in instruments and currencies have allowed growth in managed resources. of 300% and 290% respectively.

For its part, according to LVA Indices, fixed-income funds, with a more conservative risk profileshow growth of 57% in the liquidity category (the most conservative) and 45% in the medium-term category (moderate risk).

With the reduction of the rates by the Bank of the Republic, the FICs have been having significant returns. Well above the CDTs that are above or below the 10% Annual Effective. In the case of the fixed-income funds (the most conservative) they are above this value. The medium-term category stands out with an average return of 16.27% for the month of July. The short-term category, on the other hand, showed an average monthly return of 11.45% at the end of July.
