Caracas, Aug 27 (EFE).- The president of Venezuela, Nicolas Maduro, appointed this Tuesday the person considered number two of Chavismo, Diosdado Cabello, new Minister of the Interior and Justice – an office he already headed in 2002 – so that bring “peace” to the country, which is experiencing a political crisis following the elections of July 28.
In a televised event, Maduro said that Cabello will also be «vice president of the Government», upon assuming this State portfolio that was led by Remigio Ceballos, whose fate the president did not explain.
“Diosdado brings luck (…) he knows a lot about peace, he knows a lot about justice,” said Maduro, who highlighted Cabello’s ability to «consolidate peace» facing “so much conspiracy.”
After the announcement, Cabello, first vice president of the ruling United Socialist Party (PSUV), took the floor and assured that he will work so that Venezuela “it is directed towards peace with justice” and that “those who have acted against the law” be prosecuted.
On July 30, Cabello threatened members of the majority opposition, including the presidential candidate, Edmundo Gonzalez Urrutia, already its main supporter, Maria Corina Machado, that they are going to “screw them over,” after both politicians rejected the victory granted by the electoral body to Maduro in the July elections.
At today’s event, Maduro confirmed in their positions the executive vice president, Delcy Rodríguez -who was also appointed head of Oil-; the foreign minister, Yvan Gil; as well as several ministers, including the Minister of Defense, Vladimir Padrino López, the member of the Executive with the longest tenure in the post.
