Ortega, "servant of China and Russia" has fought with the entire international left and his attack on Lula is a reflection of his isolation, say opponents

The dictator Daniel Ortega, by aggressively attacking the presidents of Brazil and Colombia, his ideological counterparts Lula da Silva and Gustavo Petro, outside of all international protocol, is once again showing that he is totally isolated internationally and that not even the left wants him, said Nicaraguan opponents consulted by Article 66.

During his speech at the Summit of the dysfunctional Bolivarian Alternative for the Americas (Alba-TCP), held virtually this Monday, August 26, the Nicaraguan tyrant virulently attacked Lula, whom he called “dragging” behind the interests of the United States for suggesting that the elections in Venezuela be repeated, where dictator Nicolás Maduro is accused of having orchestrated electoral fraud to remain in power.

“The way you have behaved, Lula, in the face of the victory of the legitimate president of Venezuela, is shameful. By repeating the slogans of the Yankees, of the Europeans, of the groveling governments of Latin America, you are groveling too, Lula, and don’t tell me that your actions were extraordinary, but also remember the riots, the scandals, remember all of that well,” attacked the Nicaraguan tyrant.

Ortega also lashed out at Colombian President Gustavo Petro, whom he also called “dragging” towards North American and European policies for not recognizing the results of the Venezuelan presidential elections.

Petro, however, did respond to the Central American dictator, reminding him that at least in Colombia he does not drag the human rights of his people. “Daniel Ortega has called us ‘drags’, just because we want a peaceful and democratic negotiated solution in Venezuela. Such an insult allows me to answer him: At least I do not drag the human rights of the people of my country and even less those of my comrades in arms and struggles,” said Petro.

For Luis Blandón, president of the political organization in exile, the Nicaraguan Democratic Union (Unamos), Ortega continues to close the channels of communication with the international community, in order to also close any international dialogue that could advocate for respect for human rights and an end to repression. “(Ortega) is getting ahead of himself,” says Blandón.

The opposition political leader maintains that the Nicaraguan dictator cannot stand the fact that the left is criticizing the lack of human rights in Nicaragua.

“Lula and Petro are taking a coherent stance with Venezuela, which makes the dictatorship in Nicaragua nervous since at one time they were allies,” said the president of Unamos.

Ortega is trembling with fear and paranoid

Former political prisoner and opposition leader Félix Maradiaga analyzes that the tyrant Ortega has taken his paranoia and fears to extreme levels, seeing the supposedly interventionist hand of the United States behind any action under international law.

«For Ortega, any call to comply with international treaties or norms is interpreted as a conspiracy by Washington. This delusion has eroded his relations with other progressive leaders in Latin America, as evidenced by his recent break with Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva.»

Dictator Ortega has been feuding with Gabriel Boric of Chile and Gustavo Petro of Colombia, all leftists.

The political scientist argues that the Nicaraguan tyrant has closed ranks to the point of being completely isolated, rejected even by his former allies, who no longer feel comfortable associating with a regime so radically disconnected from reality.

“In Europe, even the most extreme sectors of the left, which still support regimes such as those in Cuba and Venezuela, have decided to abandon Ortega, considering him indefensible,” Maradiaga recalls.

He adds that this obsession with a supposed “US intervention” has led the octogenarian dictator to turn Nicaragua into a kind of “tropicalized North Korea,” where any ties with the international community are seen as a threat.

“His hostility toward governments in Chile, Colombia, and now Brazil, reflects his desperation to stay in power at any cost, sacrificing any ties in his efforts to consolidate an increasingly isolated and repudiated dictatorship. Ortega is nothing more than a tyrant surrounded by his own paranoia, who has even lost the support of those who were once his comrades in arms,” Maradiaga analyzed.

Meanwhile, member of the Blue and White National Unity (UNAB) and member of the Monteverde board, Juan Diego Barberena, agrees with the previous analysts that Ortega, by attacking Lula and Petro, reflects his international isolation, his inability to maintain relations within the framework of international law with respect and his inability to be a statesman.

For Barberena, the virulent attacks of the Nicaraguan dictator show that Ortega is not a leader of the left; he has parted ways on very bad terms with Gustavo Petro (Colombia), Gabriel Boric (Chile) and now Lula. “He only remains in close contact with Cuba and Venezuela, who are the local fascists, and with the Zelaya-Castros, who are the Ortega-Murillos of Honduras,” he warned.

The UNAB leader recalled that Lula maintains geopolitical trade relations with China, Russia and India, within the political-economic forum known as the BRICS, where the Nicaraguan regime wants to enter, but Ortega only acts as a “servant of China and Russia.”
