SAN LUIS POTOSÍ, Mexico.- One person died and at least five others were injured after a accident at the Karl Marx Cement Factory in Cienfuegos on Tuesday afternoon.
According to the local telecentre PearlvisionThe incident occurred due to a spill of materials in one of the industry’s hoppers, used for storing and channeling materials. The causes are currently being investigated, the media reported.
So far, the official press has confirmed that one worker died at the factory, located on the El Guabairoy farm. At least five injured people are being treated in the Caumatology service of the Dr. Gustavo Aldereguia Lima General University Hospital in Cienfuegos, with varying degrees of burns.
One of them is in extremely critical condition, two are in very serious condition and the rest are in “less serious” condition.
The injured were identified as Dionel Figueroa Calunga, 52 years old, with 70% burns on his body, reported to be in extremely critical condition.
In addition, Francisco Díaz Urquiza, 60, with 24% burns; Hermes Rojas Campos, 52, with 24% burns; Carlos Aguilar Sabina, 33, with 12% burns, reported as less serious; and Alexei Aguilar Valdes, 53, with 5% burns, were also injured.
“All the necessary supplies and resources for care are guaranteed,” the note said.
According to the independent journalist Yosmany Mayeta Labradawho had initially reported the news, “the wall of an electro filter in the crude oil area collapsed and produced a spill of high-temperature material.”
According to the information provided by the journalist, there are still people trapped. Police in uniform (Black Berets) and in plain clothes, as well as relatives of some of the center’s workers, attended the facility.
