Javier López Casarín receives the Defender of Optics Award 2024

Javier López Casarín receives the Defender of Optics Award 2024

López Casarín explained that from October 21, 2021 to July 31, 2024, the Science, Technology and Innovation Commission issued 42 documents regarding legislative opinions, work reports and technical opinions on various topics, which contributed to the Chamber of Deputies fulfilling its constitutional and legal powers.

The Commission also analyzed and issued a positive ruling on the enactment of the General Law on Humanities, Sciences, Technologies and Innovation.

In previous years, the same award has been given to Steven Chu, Nobel Prize winner in Physics and former US Secretary of Energy; Stephen Conroy, Senator of Australia; Carol Monaghan, Member of Parliament of the United Kingdom; Alain Rousset, President of the Nouvelle-Aquitaine Region in France; and Joe Morelle, Congressman of the United States.

Regarding the Federal Cybersecurity Law initiative that López Casarín presented in the last Ordinary Session, the deputy estimated that it will be taken up again in the next Legislature, since it was built thanks to the consensus of the academic, public, private and social sectors, in a joint effort between the Chamber of Deputies and the Senate.

“I am convinced that the enactment of a Federal Cybersecurity Law will guarantee the freedoms and rights of users, as well as the protection of personal data. The legal framework that is being built and that the next Legislature will be responsible for following up on will prevent overregulation and will encourage digital economies,” he said.

At the event held in the Senate of the Republic, Mexico joined the Global Environmental Measurement and Monitoring (GEMM) initiative.

To meet this challenge, the initiative draws on all disciplines of knowledge, including optics and photonics, as well as the latest technological developments.

To formalize it, a memorandum of understanding was signed between The Global Environmental Measurement and Monitoring Network and the Mexican Photonics Cluster AC

“At the Mexican Photonics Cluster, we consider it a great honor to have been invited to join the GEMM Initiative, in order to contribute to saving human life on Earth and that of the species with which we cohabit this beautiful planet; an effort for which, we are sure, we will continue to count on the invaluable and determined support that Congressman Javier López Casarín has always given us,” said Dr. Eric Rosas.
