News Colombia

Following the recent Jet A1 aviation fuel supply crisis that affected several airports in Colombia, airlines Avianca and Latam have announced that their operations will return to normal this week.

On the one hand, Avianca announced in a statement that starting today, Tuesday, August 27, all its flights will operate normally.

The decision was made after receiving confirmation from the main supplier, Terpel, about the elimination of fuel supply restrictions. Federico Pedreira, president of the Avianca Group, said that the company was surprised by the news, but that this will allow it to fulfill the plans of thousands of affected passengers.

Meanwhile, Latam announced that, although some flights on Tuesday could be affected, the airline expects to resume normal operations on Wednesday, August 28.

Santiago Álvarez, CEO of Latam Airlines Colombia, said the company welcomed the notification of the normalization of supply.

Government and Aerocivil response

Colombia’s civil aviation authority, Aerocivil, has assured that the fuel supply is guaranteed and will not allow flight cancellations due to a lack of this input.

President Gustavo Petro, after meeting with senior officials and the president of Ecopetrol, confirmed that air operations in the country are assured.

The president also requested an investigation into Terpel for alleged irregularities in the delivery of fuel to airlines.

The government has stressed that the contingency has been managed and that fuel supply is under control, dissociating the situation from the recent blackout at Reficar.

This news comes as a relief to thousands of travellers who have been affected by cancellations and delays in recent days. Airlines hope to be able to normalise their operations and avoid further inconvenience to passengers.
