The National Broad Consumer Price Index 15 (IPCA-15), which measures the preview of official inflation, was 0.19% in August of this year. The rate is lower than those observed in the previews of July of this year (0.30%) and August of last year (0.28%).
The data comes from the Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics (IBGE) and was released this Tuesday (27).
As a result, the IPCA-15 accumulated rates of 3.02% in the eight months of this year, and 4.35% in 12 months. The accumulated rate in 12 months was below the 4.45% recorded in the previous 12 months, that is, from August 2023 to July of this year.
In the August preview, eight of the nine expenditure groups surveyed by IBGE recorded price increases, with emphasis on transport (0.83%), which had the greatest impact on the IPCA-15 for the period.
The transport result was influenced by increases in items such as gasoline (3.33%), fuels (3.47%), ethanol (5.81%), vehicle gas (1.31%) and diesel oil (0.85%).
On the other hand, food was the only class of expenditure with deflation (price drop), of 0.8%, repeating the behavior of the preview of the previous month, when it had a rate of -0.44%.
Among the food items that registered deflation are tomatoes (-26.59%), potatoes (-13.13%) and onions (-11.22%). Meals eaten outside the home, however, had inflation of 0.49%.
The other expenditure groups showed the following inflation rates: education (0.75%), household items (0.71%), personal expenses (0.43%), health and personal care (0.27%), housing (0.18%), communication (0.09%) and clothing (0.09%).
