Maria Corina Machado on the TSJ ruling: She was stillborn and no one believes them

Maria Corina Machado: Venezuelans are in a situation where they fear for their lives

Maria Corina Machado said that “a new phase of the strategy has begun” and asked citizens to prepare “to maintain this strength and internal cohesion.” She said: “Our tactics are so diverse that they will not be able to contain them.”

Opposition leader María Corina Machado referred on Monday, August 26, to the decision of the Supreme Court of Justice (TSJ) that endorses the results issued by the National Electoral Council (CNE) that give Nicolás Maduro the victory for a third term and said: “The crude sentence was stillborn, nobody, inside or outside this country, believes them.”

According to Machado, Maduro’s government sought legitimacy in two ways: “Justifying its fraud through the Supreme Court and paralyzing society through severe repression.”

“They didn’t bother publishing the results table by table, much less showing the minutes,” he said, and considered that with these events, the only thing the government confirmed was “its monumental defeat.”

The representative Vente Venezuela indicated that even the electoral witnesses of the United Socialist Party of Venezuela (PSUV) have begun to explain what happened on July 28 in the presidential elections because, says Machado, “they do not want to be accomplices of a fraud.”

María Corina Machado insisted that they have raised the possibility of negotiating a transition with the Maduro administration and noted that “they still do not understand that it is their best option so far.”

For Machado, the repression unleashed by the authorities after the elections is “the most costly practice of the regime” and he said that they know that this will extend their survival “for a while.” He also reminded them that the violation of human rights is a crime that is subject to a statute of limitations.

On the other hand, Machado thanked the support of the international community, of “all the democracies of the world,” and added that even countries allied to Maduro did not accept the results issued by the CNE due to lack of evidence. She also recognized the work of non-governmental organizations that have raised their voices in favor of the situation in Venezuela after the elections.

Maria Corina Machado said that “a new phase of the strategy has begun” and asked citizens to prepare “to maintain this internal strength and cohesion.” She said that there will be “a new way of organizing and mobilizing the streets in which we will be highly effective while running the least possible risk. Our tactics are so diverse that they will not be able to contain them and we will act with precision so that they cannot prevent our advance; the end of the regime of horror is approaching but first we will claim our victory.”
