On Monday morning, firefighters belonging to Unit No. 57 of Quillabamba (La Convención – Cusco), left early in the morning towards the Macamango sector, where a forest fire was out of control.
The flames started on Sunday morning, Since then they have been fought by firefighters, community members and security guards. from Quillabamba, however the fire threatens to move towards the areas of San Pedro and Serranoyoc in the district of Santa Ana.
According to the preliminary report, so far there is an impact on natural cover and pine reforestation areas covering an area of more than 10 hectares. The local authority met with first responders to move to the emergency zone on Monday at 4:00 a.m.
By this Monday, they would join the efforts to extinguish the fire, troops belonging to the Peruvian Army, quartered in Fort Macamango, authorities are considering evacuating residents of the area.
