Recently, the government has decided to carry out a thorough audit to review the legitimacy of the pensions granted, with the aim of identifying and eliminating those that were obtained fraudulently.
This process has been driven by surprising cases that the Government discovered, such as the use of the same X-ray to justify 150 different benefits, which has generated great concern about the integrity of the system.
The disability pension system in Argentina is designed to provide financial support to those people who, due to a disability, are unable to work and are in a vulnerable economic situation.
However, in recent years, there has been a significant increase in the number of beneficiaries, leading to suspicions that many of these pensions may have been granted irregularly.
According to recent reports, the National Disability Agency (ANDIS) has identified multiple cases of fraud in the granting of disability pensionsOne of the most notorious examples is the use of the same shoulder X-ray to justify the granting of 150 different pensions.
Such irregularities not only undermine confidence in the system, but also represent a significant diversion of public funds that could be used to support those who really need it. In response to these allegations, the government has announced a massive audit that will cover more than 1.2 million disability pension recipients.
Audit
The objective of this audit is to identify and eliminate those pensions that were obtained fraudulently. It is estimated that nearly half a million of these pensions could have been granted irregularly, which represents a potential saving of up to 100 billion pesos per month for the Government.
The audit will be carried out in several stages. First, letters will be sent to beneficiaries, asking them to appear at an ANSES office or a public hospital for a medical evaluation. During this evaluation, a doctor will determine the degree of disability of the beneficiary and their socioeconomic profile will be reviewed to ensure that they meet the requirements to receive the pension.
