Emtrasur president summoned for alleged cocaine seized in Maiquetía

A total of three thousand kilos of suspected cocaine were seized at the Air Customs facilities of the Simón Bolívar International Airport (La Guaira). During the procedure, 13 people were arrested; among those involved is Lieutenant Colonel of the Military Aviation César José Pérez Salas, president of the Southern Air Transport Company, SA (Emtrasur).


A total of three thousand kilos of alleged cocaine were seized at the Air Customs facilities of the Simón Bolívar International Airport, located in Maiquetía (La Guaira), reported Latest News.

During the procedure, 13 people were arrested and among those involved is the lieutenant colonel of the Bolivarian Military Aviation César José Pérez Salas, president of the Company of Air Cargo Transport del Sur, SA (Emtrasur), according to the report of the Special Anti-Drug Unit No. 45 to which the national media had “partial” access.

In a second post, Latest News The judicial source said that Pérez Salas, president of Emtrasur, an entity attached to the Ministry of Transport, was summoned to testify about the procedure. “He is not under arrest,” the judicial source clarified.

The shipment was impregnated with coffee and was to be sent to Afghanistan. The alleged drug came with packaging from “Café El Faraón CA”, a company based in the El Helechal sector (Táchira), according to the report from Detachment 451 of the National Guard (GN).

Cocaine and detainees

The suspects were arrested in the attack on the city of Santoyo, in the capital of the state of Baja California, in the state of Baja California Sur.

The list is completed by Concepcion Niño Torres, Roger Alfredo Vergara Perez, Eliaxis Joshua Nava Rodriguez, Alexander Nehomar Santalis, Yuisay Yaneiza Ramirez Pinto, Barbara Gislaine Duran Aldama, Mario Ricardo Prado Medina and Daniel Alfonso Arevalo Chirinos; the last three were in Carabobo.

These people were handed over to the Public Prosecutor’s Office where a case was opened against them for illicit drug trafficking.

On May 20, the National Anti-Drug Superintendency (Sunad) reported that so far in 2024, authorities have seized some 21,998,956 kilograms of illicit substances.
