In 2023, Colombia exported 2.0 million tons of metallurgical coal. The main destinations of these exports were China, Japan, Brazil and Türkiye.

On the other hand, coke, Colombia’s first industrial export product, reached 3.91 million tons in 2023. The main markets for this product were Brazil, Ireland and Türkiyereflecting the high demand for Colombian coke in the global metallurgical industry.

Coal mining remains a fundamental pillar for Colombia, both in economic and industrial terms. With its prominent position in the global thermal coal and coke market, the country not only supports its national energy matrix, but also plays a crucial role in the global industry.
