Mazatlán, Sin., Elements of the Attorney General’s Office (FGR) yesterday carried out an operation in the Pueblo Bonito subdivision, in the Tres Ríos area of Culiacán, where Fausto Corrales Rodríguez allegedly lives, who, according to the version of the state prosecutor’s office, was accompanying the former rector of the Autonomous University of Sinaloa (UAS) Héctor Melesio Cuén Ojeda when he was murdered at a gas station on July 25 during an attempted robbery, security sources announced.
Personnel from the Criminal Investigation Agency (AIC) of the FGR and the Army arrived around 10:30 in the morning in several vehicles to a home located on Rotarismo Boulevard and Hermila Galindo Street in Topete, where they carried out a search.
However, the authorities did not disclose whether there were any arrests and did not release any official information on the matter.
Fausto Corrales is the son of the former rector of the UAS and current president of the Sinaloa Party, Víctor Antonio Corrales Burgueño, also a deputy elected to the LXV Legislature.
According to the investigation carried out by the State Attorney General’s Office (FGE) on the murder of Cuén Ojeda, on the day the crime was committed, Corrales Rodríguez accompanied the victim as driver
of the vehicle they were riding in, which a couple of men on a motorcycle tried to steal from them at a gas station, who shot them when they resisted.
Dámaso Castro Saavedra, deputy attorney general of Sinaloa and head of the FGE office, said last Friday that the investigations of this agency regarding the murder of Cuén Ojeda were based mainly on the statements of the only witness to the crime, Corrales Rodríguez.
Contradictions
However, this version was denied by Ismael The May Zambada, who was arrested in the United States on July 25, said he was ambushed to be taken to that country when he was waiting to meet with Governor Rubén Rocha Moya and Cuén Ojeda at a ranch in Culiacán.
In his statement, based on a document released by his defense, the drug lord said that the former rector of the UAS was killed in the same place where he was kidnapped; a version that has been supported by the FGR after it took over the case and detected inconsistencies in the investigation file of the state prosecutor’s office.
