Santo Domingo.- Authorities seized 75 packages presumably containing cocaine during joint interdiction operations carried out on the coasts of the province of Pedernales.

Agents of the National Directorate of Drug Control (DNCD) and members of the Dominican Republic Navy (ARD) coordinated by members of the Public Ministry, after receiving intelligence reports, set up a surveillance and monitoring operation to catch several individuals who, aboard a vessel (Go Fast type), were attempting to introduce a significant amount of narcotic substances into Dominican territory.

The crew of the boat, upon noticing the presence of the authorities, accelerated their speed and upon reaching the coast of Cabo Pequeño, in the aforementioned demarcation, they abandoned the ship and fled the scene.

When the boat, 26 feet long and equipped with a 75-horsepower outboard motor, was seized, three bales were seized, containing 75 packages of a substance presumed to be cocaine.

Authorities also seized a GPS, a radio and other evidence that will help strengthen investigations into the failed international drug trafficking operation.

“Operational and reaction teams continue to be deployed along the entire coast, carrying out search and tracking tasks, which will allow the arrest of potential suspects, as well as the location of other illegal activities.”

The Public Prosecutor’s Office and the DNCD have launched an investigation into the case, while the 75 packages of the substance were sent to the National Institute of Forensic Sciences (INACIF) for the corresponding purposes.
