Peru enjoys long weekend in Santa Rosa de Lima

Religious fervour and the joy of a long break come together this weekend in Peru. The celebration of Saint Rose of Lima Day, patron saint of America, falls on a Friday, which will allow millions of Peruvians to enjoy a well-deserved long holiday.

The feast of Saint Rose, celebrated on August 30, is a special date for Peruvians. Her legacy as the first saint of America makes her a symbol of faith and devotion. Thousands of faithful flock to the Sanctuary of Saint Rose every year to pay homage to her and ask for her favors.

This year, the fact that the holiday falls on a Friday has generated great expectations. Public and private sector workers will take advantage of these three days off to rest, travel, visit relatives or simply enjoy outdoor activities.

The holiday and its benefits

According to Legislative Decree No. 713, August 30 is a national holiday. However, many private sector workers will also be able to enjoy this break thanks to agreements with their employers.

For those who must work on this day, labor legislation establishes that they must receive triple remuneration. This economic compensation is composed of the remuneration corresponding to the holiday, the daily remuneration for the work performed and an additional amount equivalent to 100% of the daily remuneration.

Devotion to Saint Rose of Lima transcends borders. Her history and miracles have made her a symbol of the Catholic faith in America.

One of the most popular rituals is to deposit a letter in the Wishing Well, located in the Sanctuary. Although the tradition is still maintained, it has also been adapted to modern times, allowing these requests to be made virtually.
