While Judge Richard Concepción concluded the hearing on preventive detention for the case The Waykis in the Shadow and announced its resumption for this Monday, in the center of Lima, a key witness in that investigation was kidnapped on the other side of the city, in Surco.
It was around 1:00 pm yesterday when Ivan Siucho Neira He was arrested by his captors in the condominium where he lives, on Las Casuarinas Avenue.
Siucho had already reported threats against him since he told the Special Team against Corruption of Power (Eficcop) that he received pressure from Mateo Castañeda, former lawyer of President Dina Boluarte, to pass off as payment of fees S/15 thousand that the Prosecutor’s Office had seized from him when they raided his office on May 11.
According to prosecutor Marita Barreto, coordinator of Eficcop, the kidnappers entered Siucho’s apartment by trickery and managed to get him out of his home.
There were seven captors, two of them non-commissioned officers from the Lince Police Station identified as Gabriel Neyra Zapata and Rolando Castillo Pino.
“It was a kidnapping (…) This situation has brought an imminent risk to a protected witness of Eficcop and apparently what they were looking for were the cell phones, they took the witness, then they threw him in a street (…) after everything was public knowledge, they came to throw the cell phones here (near the house),” Barreto told the press from Surco, after speaking with Siucho Neira.
For the senior prosecutor there was no doubt: this was a reprisal for the revelations made by her star witness, sinking Boluarte’s former legal defender.
I knew him well
Iván Siucho knew Castañeda because he was his lawyer in another investigation he is facing for money laundering related to illegal gold trafficking.
And this last case gained importance last night. The PNP commander general, Victor Zanabria, gave a different version to that of the prosecutor Barreto and explained that the kidnapping would be related to the gold business.
“A firearm was found, which suggests that violence was used to restrain the person, there was cash, our hypothesis is that it was a gold handling business because two of the detainees have a history of property crimes,” Zanabria said.
He said that one of the detained PNP officers confessed that he was paid to “protect” a money transaction.
He also said that the collaborator had his cell phones in safekeeping and that “only the facts will determine what happened.”
Siucho, meanwhile, remained at the Monterrico Police Station to tell his version. He is a crucial figure for the Prosecutor’s Office, either because of his importance to the Eficcop or because of his money laundering process.
