Higuey.- The General Directorate of Traffic Safety and Land Transportation (DIGESETT) reported that during an operation coordinated with the National Police and the National Institute of Traffic and Land Transportation (INTRANT), 30 trucks were detained that were transporting people on the back of the vehicle, in clear violation of Law 63-17.
The Traffic Law specifies in its article 124, the prohibition of the transport of passengers in vehicles intended for cargo. The trucks were intercepted in the municipality of Higüey, specifically in the area of Verón and Bávaro, while the drivers were inspected.
The Director General of DIGESETT, General Francisco Osoria De La Cruz, PN, said that, in collaboration with other entities, he will continue working to guarantee the safety of citizens on the country’s roads and enforce the Traffic Law and that these operations are carried out with the purpose of preventing traffic accidents and saving lives.
DIGESETT called on drivers and the general public to respect the Traffic Law and avoid dangerous practices such as transporting people in the back of a truck or van.
He said that the seized vehicles were taken to the INTRANT parking lot in Bávaro, Higüey municipality.
