The National Electoral Institute (INE) yesterday approved by majority vote the allocation of proportional representation (PR) legislators, which gives Morena and its allies a comfortable majority in the Chamber of Deputies and leaves them three seats short in the Senate.
The cherry-colored party will have a total of 236 deputies (161 of majority and 75 of RP); the Green Ecologist Party will become the second political force in this chamber, above the PRI and the PAN, with 77 seats (57 of majority and 20 of RP), while the PT will be the fourth force, with 51 deputies (38 of majority and 13 of RP). Between the three, the Fourth Transformation (4T) reaches 364 legislators.
According to the allocation approved by seven of the 11 electoral councilors, the PAN will be the third political force in San Lázaro, with a total of 72 seats (32 majority and 40 RP). The PRI added 35 spaces (nine majority and 26 RP). Together with the PRD they add 108 seats. Movimiento Ciudadano won 27 deputies and added one independent.
As for the composition of the Senate, although Morena and its allies have 83 seats, they were three positions short of a qualified majority. The truth is that the federal government party will have 60 senators (46 from the majority and 14 from the RP); the Green Ecologist Party will have 14 seats, and the PT, nine.
The PAN will remain the second force in the Senate with 22 members (16 majority and six plurinominal), while the PRI obtains 16 seats (12 majority and four RP), among which is Manlio Fabio Beltrones, whom the national leader of the tricolorAlejandro Moreno said that he would not include him in his parliamentary group.
The PRD won two senators, leaving the opposition with a total of 40 legislators in this chamber, less than half of those of Morena and its allies. Movimiento Ciudadano will have five senators.
Carla Humphrey’s proposal to modify the list of Morena senators to include a person with a disability was rejected, for which the name of former Oaxaca governor Alejandro Murat would be removed from the list. All agreements may be challenged before the Electoral Tribunal of the Judicial Branch of the Federation.
