Union vote at Tridonex plant to be delayed a week

The vote in which nearly 1,700 workers at the Mexican auto parts plant Tridonex will have the opportunity to elect a new union was delayed a week, until February 28according to an official document seen by Reuters on Saturday.

Workers at the plant in the northern Mexican city of Matamoros began campaigning two years ago to replace a union they accused of failing to push for higher wages.

In the next vote, they will be able to choose between their current union, which is part of the Confederation of Workers of Mexico (CTM), and the Independent National Union of Industrial and Service Workers (SNITIS).

Documents from Mexico’s Federal Board of Conciliation and Arbitration indicate that the vote has been scheduled for February 28, after it was initially set for February 21.

The American parent company of TridonexUnlisted Cardone last year faced scrutiny from the US government in one of the first labor complaints under a new regional trade agreementT-MEC, after the workers said that they were denied the right to freely choose their representation.

Cardone he said he will be neutral and work with the group chosen by the workers.
