Young man with lymphedema asks for help: “It is difficult to live like this here in Cuba”

SAN LUIS POTOSI, Mexico.- Dayan Sotolongo Garciaa 19-year-old young man suffering from grade four acute lymphedema, requested assistance to travel to Spain and treat his condition in that country, given the lack of access to an adequate procedure in Cuba.

In conversation with CubaNetThe young man, a native of Pinar del Río, said that he currently resides in Havana because he is processing his documents to, thanks to a friend, travel to Spain and undergo an operation that will restore his vision. quality of life that he has not been able to have due to his illness.

Orphaned by his mother and father, Dayán lives with his sister and survives on just 1,500 pesos in social security from the government.

“Here in Cuba they have not been able to help me because there is not enough equipment to help me and so I am now in the process of getting paperwork to go to Spain to have the operation,” he told our media.

However, without income to support this, the young has not been able to continue with the travel plan.

“I am asking people with all my heart for help, because I cannot afford to have that money in hand. That is why I am asking people, please, if they could help me financially so I can gather the money for my operation…”, she said.

Diagnosed with lymphedema, a swelling that occurs when lymphatic fluid builds up in the soft tissues of the body, his life in Cuba has been complicated. “It is a very difficult disease that requires a lot of medication. Living like this in Cuba and with only 1,500 pesos…”

Lymphedema most often occurs in the arms or legs, but it can also occur in other parts of the body, such as the face, neck, torso, abdomen, or genitals.

The little girl’s mother, after having reported the case and the authorities’ negligence in treating Amanda’s condition, managed to travel to the Iberian Peninsula and save her daughter’s life, with the selfless help of many people.
