In the Chamber of Deputies, Morena argued that it was too busy to postpone the vote in committees on the bill that seeks to eliminate autonomous bodies, and, at the end of the legislature without approval, by parliamentary rule, the initiative will be discarded.
Deputies from that party explained that, if the discussion of the issue were to be insisted upon, another initiative would have to be presented, even the same one that was discarded now, but with some minimal change to justify that it is different.
This is one of the reforms considered fundamental by President Andrés Manuel López Obrador, who describes these organizations as pure cover-up
and has said that, with its extinction, they could save about 100 billion pesos a year
.
Although the Constitutional Affairs Committee was convened to discuss the issue today, the session is not expected to take place.
To prevent the cancellation of the reform from being formalized, Morena plans to let time pass, so that the opinion that foresees the disappearance of the autonomous bodies is not voted on in this legislature.
The president of the commission, Juan Ramiro Robledo (Morena), avoided the questions that deputies from his party and reporters asked him, regarding whether the meeting is still firm and the issue will be discussed and approved, despite the controversy it has unleashed.
I called it, but if the members of the committee suggest another date, it would be another date, but if not, we are summoned for tomorrow (today) at 11
he said in an interview. He even said that he would consult with the parliamentary coordinators on whether or not to address the issue.
The vice-coordinator of the bench, Leonel Godoy Rangel, accepted that There is a possibility
to cancel the discussion. Right now we are analyzing
he explained. And when asked why, he replied: because we have a lot of work
.
After yesterday’s approval of the reform that will return command of the National Guard to the Army, Morena deputy Irma Juan Carlos approached Robledo to ask whether there would be a meeting or not.
Maybe yes or maybe not. There is a statement from the president (elect, Claudia Sheinbaum) on this matter
he replied, adding that today at 10:30 he will inform the deputies whether there is a session or not.
Initially, the meeting for this point was to be held on August 26, but the controversy was fueled when the meeting was brought forward to today. This Thursday, at the end of the meeting, Robledo told the deputies: see you according to the schedule
.
The day before the discussion in the San Lázaro Commissions of the ruling that extinguishes the autonomous organizations, the president-elect, Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo, said that she is aware that the federal deputies were analyzing, at least until yesterday afternoon, the possibility of postponing the vote for a week.
During a press conference at her transitional home, the future president was asked about her position regarding the ruling scheduled to be debated today in the Constitutional Affairs Committee of the Chamber of Deputies. I haven’t reviewed the ruling, to be honest. And they were deciding whether to discuss it tomorrow, as far as I know, or postpone it for a few weeks. They were in the process of deciding.
he replied.
