The Peruvian Geophysical Institute (IGP) reported that the National Seismological Center (Censis) recorded a 4.2 magnitude earthquake this Friday, the 23rd, in the district of Quilca, in the Arequipa province of Camaná.
According to a report, the movement began at 17:22 hours and originated at a distance of 5 kilometers southeast of Quilca, with a depth of 40 kilometers, an intensity of III and latitude and longitude of -16.74, -72.39 degrees. Due to the magnitude of the earthquake, the alert range issued was green.

The green color range is used for earthquakes of magnitudes less than 4.4; yellow is assigned to movements whose magnitude fluctuates between 4.5 to 6.0; while the color red designates earthquakes greater than 6.1.
Hours earlier, a strong earthquake was also recorded in the Arequipa region. The Censis recorded a 4.1 magnitude earthquake in Chala, in the province of Caravelí.
The movement began at 06:57 hours and originated at a distance of 22 kilometers west of Chala, with a depth of 33 kilometers and latitude and longitude of -15.91, -74.44 degrees.
