Chile will face Argentina and Bolivia in the 2026 World Cup qualifiers without the historic Alexis Sánchez, Claudio Bravo and Arturo Vidal, according to the announcement made by the coach of La Roja, Ricardo Gareca, when he revealed the list of 26 players called up on Friday.
‘El Tigre’ Gareca decided to leave out the forward Sánchez, who is suffering from a muscle injury, and the goalkeeper Bravo, no club at the moment.
Chile must face Argentina on September 5, in Buenos Aires, and Bolivia on the 10th to Bolivia, in Santiago.
Since he took charge of the national team, Gareca has not taken into account the ‘King’ Arturo Vidal.
Among those summoned are: Ben Brereton, Mauricio Isla, Eduardo Vargas and Erick Pulgar, who are called upon to make up for the team’s lack of leadership.
“Chile needs to find a leader (…) that begins to take shape through the commitment that he can have in the group,” said the coach.
“Today I cannot see who can become the leader of the selection,” he acknowledged.
Chile ranks eighth, out of a total of 10, in the qualifiers that Argentina leads, above Peru and Bolivia.
Chile’s payroll for the next two dates of the South American qualifiers is as follows:
