Agents of the National Directorate of Drug Control, (DNCD), Supported by the Military Security of the Caucedo Multimodal Port and Customs inspectors, coordinated by members of the Public Ministry, seized a shipment of 1,585 packages presumably cocaine, in the midst of interdiction work carried out at the aforementioned port terminal, in the municipality of Boca Chica, Santo Domingo province.
Within the framework of the new operational strategies, anti-narcotics agents and military personnel profiled and inspected dozens of containers from South America, when they detected inconsistencies in one of them, immediately preparing to apply the protocol of performance.
When the container was seized, 317 (contaminated) boxes loaded with lemons were seized, inside which a total of 1,585 (1.5 tons) packages of a substance presumed to be cocaine were confiscated, weighing more than 1,600 kilograms.
According to the manifest, the cargo of citrus fruits, in transit through the country, coming from the port of Santa Marta, Colombia, had Hamburg as its final destination, Germany.
“The official bodies of the Dominican Republic They highlight that this shipment of alleged cocaine is the third largest volume confiscated at the Caucedo Multimodal Port; it is also the largest shipment seized during 2024,” says the statement from the anti-narcotics agency.
Authorities have launched an investigation into the botched international drug trafficking operation and expect to provide more details as the investigation progresses.
The DNCD with the support of the Central Government, the Armed Forces (NavyAir Force and Army), the Attorney General’s Office and international cooperation, have continued to deal forceful blows to criminal structures that attempt to use our airports and ports to traffic narcotic substances.
The 1,585 packages seized in this new operation were sent under chain of custody to the National Institute of Forensic Sciences (INACIF) to determine through analysis the exact type and weight of the substance.
