From bad to worse. The congresswoman Maria Aguero (Perú Libre), has been declared persona non grata by the municipality of Yanahuara and two schools in Arequipa for her regrettable homophobic statements and other offensive expressions about the region for which she was elected in 2021.
The parliamentarian, recently implicated in the ‘Mochasueldos’ case, is heard saying that she does not identify with Arequipa, in a report published in “24 horas”.
“When they ask me where you are from, I felt that short circuit and I said ‘where do I say from’, because I can’t say that I am from Cusco because I would be lying, but I can’t say that I am from Arequipa because I don’t feel like I am from Arequipa”the parliamentarian commented.
The parliamentarian also made comments against the LGBT+ community and referred to two schools where her children went to study after having settled in the United States.
“They are horrified because they say, ‘How can you bring them from having studied in the United States, from having studied in Beverly Hills, and you are going to take them there where the street vendors take their children who cut faces and who are lesbians and who are all criminals’ and they make you afraid.”he commented in reference to the Micaela Bastidas educational institutes and the Independencia Americana school.
PERSONA NOT GRATA
Following these statements, the Yanahuara District Municipality issued a statement in which it considers what María Agüero said to be “unacceptable and unforgivable,” and therefore proceeds to declare the legislator “persona non grata” in its jurisdiction.
“Just as she claims not to be proud of her land, nor to be from Arequipa, out of decency and a minimum sense of ethics, she should also have refrained from deceiving the city by running for congress for Arequipa.”reads the text signed by the mayor of Yanahuara, Sergio Bolliger, elected by Popular Renewal.
For his part, the director Jesús Paquala, from the Micaela Bastidas school, also spoke out through Radio Yaraví and expressed his indignation at the statements that “damage the image of what they have been working on.”
“We are declaring her persona non grata. We are going to have a meeting with parents, teachers and students of the school municipality because we believe that the congresswoman, in order to make these claims, must have proof. We are going to proceed in the legal field but as unfortunately in Congress everyone closes ranks, nothing happens to them.”he commented.
On the other hand, the Independencia Americana educational institute published a statement on its social networks in a similar sense, declaring María Agüero as a persona non grata.
“In light of these absurdities, we ask the Congress of the Republic to demand that the aforementioned congresswoman express her public apologies in Congress, in the different local and national media and a written apology to our glorious educational institution, otherwise, we will take the pertinent measures to request that the congresswoman be censured in her functions.”they indicated.
In addition, the Lesbian Movement of Arequipa joined in rejecting these statements.
MINISTER REJECTS CONGRESSMAN’S STATEMENTS
In turn, the Minister of Education, Morgan Quero, also rejected today the statements made by Congresswoman María Agüero in reference to the students of the Independencia Americana and Micaela Bastidas schools.
“She will have to see it in her conscience, we support our children and youth of Arequipa, of whom we are very proud”the minister said.
“We will be very vigilant in demanding respect, in defending our children and young people. These unfortunate statements are not appropriate.”Quero said after the inauguration of the V Regional State Council that is taking place in Arequipa.
