The Civil Police of Rio de Janeiro arrested, in a luxury residence in the Búzios region, one of the most wanted drug traffickers of the criminal faction Comando Vermelho.
Paulo Gabriel Malafaia, known as GB, was the leader of drug trafficking in Jardim Catarina, in São Gonçalo, in the metropolitan region of Rio, the second electoral district in the state of Rio. To use the house, the criminal paid a daily fee of R$2,000. He was out of Rio due to the constant operations of the security forces in Jardim Catarina.
Drones
The investigations by the São Gonçalo police station began in January of this year and monitored the gang’s movements with the help of drones. On May 12 of this year, the date of Paulo Malafaia’s birthday, the Civil Police captured images of more than 50 men – most of them armed with rifles – escorting the gang leader to the party.
GB’s criminal record includes more than 90 criminal records. According to the police, the gang was responsible for robberies on the BR-101 highway, on the Niterói-Manilha stretch, in São Gonçalo. The highway is the main connection between Rio and the beaches of the Lagos Region. Paulo’s custody hearing is scheduled for this Friday (23), starting at 1 pm.
