The National Electric System Operator (ONS) confirmed, on the afternoon of this Thursday (22), that there was an interruption in the supply of electricity in the states of Acre and Rondônia. The occurrence was registered at 4:47 pm.Acre and Rondônia are left without electricity

“There was a loss of the direct current transmission system of the Madeira Complex, in addition to the 230 kV transmission system that connects the states of Acre and Rondônia to the SIN [Sistema Interligado Nacional]”, the agency reported.

The rebuilding of the load began around 5:10 pm and is still ongoing, and is expected to last a few hours. The causes of the problem have not yet been identified.

Energisa, an energy distributor in Acre and Rondônia, reported that the power outage affected the entire state of Acre, due to an external event in the National Interconnected System.

Situation room

In a statement, the Ministry of Mines and Energy (MME) reported that the head of the ministry, Alexandre Silveira, ordered the immediate opening of a situation room, with the participation of the ONS, the National Electric Energy Agency (ANEEL) and the ministry’s technical staff, “to ensure speed in the restoration of the system and monitor other negotiations regarding the incident”. The service conditions of the Brazilian electrical system remain reliable, emphasized the MME.

At the last meeting of the Electricity Sector Monitoring Committee (CMSE), held in early August, the ONS recommended the activation of natural gas power plants and the reduction in the use of hydroelectric plants in the North Region, to preserve rivers and water resources, as a result of the drought.
