On Thursday, February 17, it transpired that the City Hall had donated t-shirts and backpacks to the Broad Front for a “Yes” walk-through scheduled for March 6, according to El Observador.
The mayor of Montevideo, Carolina Cosse, said that it was a “mistake of a person” which was corrected, added that it was without authorization and ordered that the donation not be made.
This Friday, the Intendancy ordered an administrative investigation to clarify the facts related to the episode.
Through a statement, the departmental government of the capital indicates that last Wednesday, February 16, it learned that “a delivery of a remnant of materials from the Ministry of Education, Physics, Sports and Recreation to a political party had been processed. After consulting with the person responsible for the aforementioned secretariat, she admitted that she had sent a remnant of backpacks and T-shirts from a previous activity to the headquarters of the Broad Front.
Immediately, the Intendancy contacted the president of the Broad Front, Fernando Pereira, to tell him that the delivery of said materials should never have happened and that they should be returned to the IM. Which was made effective that day.
Resignation
“In conversation with the coordinator of the Secretariat of Physical Education, Sports and Recreation, Marcelo Signorelli, he was made aware of the inadmissibility of the error that this fact means,” it is expressed in the statement.
As a result of the events, Signorelli presented his resignation, which was accepted by the departmental authorities.
