Bill Clinton invites Lula to climate change event in NY

President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva was invited by former US President Bill Clinton to an event organized by the Clinton Foundation on climate change, which will take place on September 23 and 24, on the sidelines of the United Nations General Assembly in New York. The invitation was made during a telephone call between the leaders on the afternoon of Thursday (22). The conversation lasted about 35 minutes, the Planalto Palace reported.Bill Clinton invites Lula to climate change event in NY

During the call, Lula was accompanied by the special advisor for International Affairs to the Presidency, Celso Amorim, and by the secretary general of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Maria Laura da Rocha. The president reiterated to Clinton the government’s commitment to the energy transition and to protecting forests, stating that he intends to present ambitious results for COP 29, in Baku, Azerbaijan, at the end of this year, and COP 30, in Belém, next year. COP is the annual United Nations Conference on Climate Change.
