Deputies join the request to remove Eidy Roca from the 'respirators' case for humanitarian reasons

Orders are increasing for remove former Minister of Health, Eidy Rocaof the ‘Chinese respirators’ case. This Thursday, August 22, some deputies and representatives of the health sector made their position public.

Through Letters sent to the Attorney General of the State, Juan Lanchipaand the president of the Supreme Court of Justice, Marco Ernesto James Molinathe deputies: Gladys Chumacero, Pamela Alurralde, María Elena Ortega, Alexsandra Zenteno and Olivia Guachalla, expressed their deep concern about Roca’s delicate state of health.

The former minister, who suffers from amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), a neurodegenerative disease that weakens muscles and affects physical functions, has seen her situation worsen after suffering a cardiorespiratory arrest in recent days.

“The right to life is protected immediatelyan interpretation favorable to the human being,” the deputies point out in their letters, referring to the need to guarantee that Roca receives adequate medical treatment without his health being put at greater risk by the judicial process.

The National Federation of Health Workers (FESIRMES), which brings together professionals from various branches of the health sector, also expressed its support for the former minister, calling for fair treatment in accordance with the law.

In a statement, the federation expressed its concern about the way the Roca case is being handled. They maintain that the State has the obligation to guarantee respect for fundamental rightsincluding access to adequate medical care.

What the Prosecutor’s Office says

Yesterday, Wednesday 21, the Attorney General, Juan Lanchipa, indicated that The Public Prosecutor’s Office is willing to analyze Roca’s legal situation once the formal request is submitted accompanied by the necessary medical reports. “We are able to analyze the situation when the defense presents a request of this nature,” Lanchipa said.

Lady Roca, the former minister’s sister, confirmed to EL DEBER that they are awaiting the forensic medical certificate to formalize the request to remove Eidy Roca from the judicial process. “We hope that the request will be sent by tomorrow,” he stated.

The former minister faces charges for contracts harmful to the State, uneconomic conduct and breach of duty, related to the acquisition of 324 Chinese respirators during his administration.
