In the discussion of the Colonia del Sacramento Territorial Planning project, the Frente Amplio bench left the room, considering that the corresponding steps were not being taken to address the issue.
This happened in the session of last Monday 19th, and the FA makes a public communication to the citizens:
After the general vote on the Colonia del Sacramento Territorial Planning project, the board made “an error by failing to read the reports from the advisory committees. In this regard, councilors from the Frente Amplio bench argued the need to reconsider the vote and enter into a general discussion and then into a particular one, a procedure that is common in debates held in this area.
Once again, the refusal of the ruling party did not allow the discussion of the project in general terms, for this reason and without being considered again, the Frente Amplio Party decided to withdraw from the room and not participate in the voting of the articles in question since it was not the appropriate way.
Our Party understands the importance of this issue and the need to have a land use plan adapted to the reality of each territory, in agreement with Law 18,308 created in 2008 by the Frente Amplio.
This law is essential for the present and future of our localities, so the discussion of it in the Departmental Council must be as broad as possible and listen to the different concerns to enrich the project that looks after the general interest.
Various concerns arise from the Colonia del Sacramento Territorial Planning project presented at the aforementioned session, for example:
1. Expansion of the city without adequate planning (and with clear real estate interests)
2. Access to the coast and the right of citizens to enjoy it.
3. Important projects regarding access to the city on Route 1 and how this may affect residents in the area.
4. Irregular settlements (emergence of new settlements and possible relocations).
5. Historic neighborhood and its importance for our city. We also see that when the local Territorial Planning plan was being drawn up, the public hearings that were held were during the pandemic, with full restrictions that we all know, which did not allow for broad community participation.
Once again the National Party is preventing the discussion of an important issue for the department in the place where it should be held, which is in the Departmental Council.
The Frente Amplio Councilors’ Bench will not be responsible for any errors that may be made by not discussing these projects in a serious manner and taking the corresponding contributions that provide guarantees to the people of Colonia.”
