Spain’s Irene Guerrero scored a goal in the thrashing of Americaof Mexican soccer, 7-0 over the Vancouver Whitecapsfrom Canada, at the start of the first phase of the Champions Cup of the Concacaf W. In addition to the world champion with the Spanish national team, the American Sarah Luebbert, Nicolette Hernández, Kianna Palacios, Scarlett Camberos, Aylín Aviléz and Miah Zuazua also scored.
América, led by Spaniard Ángel Villacampa, dominated from the start. The rout began in the 20th minute with a play from the left by Nicolette Hernández, who crossed into the six-yard box, where Luebbert headed it in for 1-0. In the 25th minute, Luebbert returned the courtesy. Inside the box, he controlled the ball and passed it back for Hernández to finish; it was 2-0.
Vancouver, distracted, received the third goal a minute later after a mistake by Keira Marin, who gave the ball to Palacios, who shot at Morgan McAslan. The goal-fest continued in the 31st minute, when Sabrina Enciso made a run down the right, which served up Camberos’ shot for the 4-0.
In the second half, América scored the fifth goal in the 50th minute after a cross from the right by Enciso that Guerrero finished with his left foot. Avilez, who had just come on, scored the 6-0 on a pass from Camberos in the 73rd minute and Zuazua made it 7-0 with a shot from mid-distance in the 85th minute.
