News Cauca
Following the events that took place on Wednesday, August 21, during the unblocking of the Pan-American Highway, which was ordered by the governor of Cauca.
Members of the AISO group took advantage of the situation to set fire to several hills in the region, causing a major environmental disaster.
The flames, which spread rapidly, have devastated some natural areas, taking a lamentable toll on local fauna.
Several animals have been reported dead, while others have been seriously injured with burns. The situation has generated great concern among authorities and the community.
The police and the Ombudsman’s Office have warned of the serious impact that this act has had on the biodiversity of the region. Rescue teams, together with the community, are on high alert and continue working to control the fire and minimize the damage.
On the other hand, it is worth highlighting that since 1:30 pm, all obstacles that impeded traffic on the Pan-American Highway have been removed, and it is expected that in a few minutes it will be fully enabled, once again guaranteeing connectivity on this important road artery of the country.
This unfortunate incident highlights the urgency of strengthening security in the region and implementing effective measures to protect natural resources and wildlife in Cauca.
According to authorities, indigenous people blocking the Pan-American Highway set fire to the mountain… the image you will see is shocking. Seriously, these are insane actions. Why harm a defenseless creature?
