Fernández acusa a Abinader de incurrir en inexactitudes

The former president Leonel Fernandez Once again the president came out in front Luis Abinaderthis time through a video released yesterday where he spoke about his role in the Venezuelan elections, the covid-19 vaccines and the reform of the country’s Magna Carta.

In the audiovisual of more than seven minutes, he assures that at the press meeting THE WEEKLYAbinader “incurred in several inaccuracies and lack of veracity.”

Fernández begins by saying that it is not true that he has criticized his position regarding the case of Venezuela and that he participated in the presidential elections of that country as an international observer and that as such, in his final report presented on the electoral results, together with the former president of Colombia, Ernesto SamperThey stressed the importance of maintaining peace and avoiding violence, ensuring the transparency of the electoral process and publishing all the minutes of the vote count, broken down by centres and voting tables.

“What the Government of Luis Abinader and other governments in the region have claimed has been nothing more than what we had initially formulated in our results report in Venezuela,” said Fernández, immediately adding that in this sense the President of the Republic is lying when he wants to point him out as someone who seeks to favor the Government of Nicolás Maduro.

The leader of the Party People’s Strength He believes that this is part of a media campaign that his government and his party, the PRM, have mounted against him, for the electoral observation management that he was carrying out, as he did in 2015 with the Unasur delegation.

On the subject of the Covid-19 vaccine, Leonel said that it is also not true that he opposed the second dose of vaccination during the Covid-19 era and that he was vaccinated twice, but he opposed a third dose since the international health organizations themselves and the companies did not have scientific evidence on whether it was necessary to apply booster doses of these vaccines.

“It was an adventure by the Government to put the health of the Dominican people at risk, perhaps only to cover up an excessive purchase of vaccines and syringes,” he explained.

Errors on Letter

Fernández closed his speech by emphasizing that it is not true that the 2010 constitutional reform eliminated the “never again” to presidential reelection. He said that in the Constitution that was being reformed, that concept did not exist and that it was 2015 reform that appeared.

“You could not eliminate what did not exist. If President Abinader had investigated this aspect of recent Dominican constitutional history more carefully, he would not have incurred the emotional outburst that he did,” said former President Fernández.

Finally, the opposition leader regretted not agreeing with the president in what is referred to in one of the final paragraphs of his letter to the Senate of the Republic, in which he states that his proposal “is a constitutional reform without precedent in the history of the Dominican Republic.”
