The Criminal Chamber of the Superior Court of Justice of Tacna confirmed the sentence of 8 years of effective prison for the former regional governor of Tacna Juan Tonconi Quispe for the alleged crime of aggravated wilful embezzlement.

The accusation is based, according to the Prosecutor’s Office, on the fact that the former authority (before occupying said position) would have received a double salary from the State, as a full-time professor at the Jorge Basadre Grohmann National University and deputy manager of the Project Formulation Unit in the District Municipality of Gregorio Albarracín in Tacna.
First instance judgment
On January 30, Judge Pepe Alvarado handed down the sentence of eight years in prison, with the condition that it would not be effective until it was ratified by the second instance. In addition, the payment of civil compensation of 119,000 soles was ordered.

Tonight the Criminal Court reaffirmed the sentence for the former regional governor of Tacna and also ordered his arrest to be interned in the Pocollay Men’s Prison.
Alert for evasion of justice
Two weeks ago, the former president of the Association of Small Business Owners of the Tacna Region, Apertac, Wilfredo Chamorro, requested through a document that the Attorney General’s Office take the necessary measures to prevent the former governor from evading justice.
