The goal is to discuss the future of journalism and its impact on Brazilian society, addressing the importance of communication and culture in the defense of territories and life. Held at the Alcindo Cacela campus of the University of the Amazon (Unama), the meeting organized by the FALA! Institute is free, but tickets must be purchased at Sympla.

The event also aims to create an environment to reflect on independent journalism and popular communication as tools for a full democracy. In addition, it will discuss the importance of culture, identity and various forms of artistic expression in journalism, encouraging the development of a network of alternative media that favors broad and continuous discussions on the main issues of the country and the continent, collaborating in the protection of independent press professionals.

According to the organization, the program includes artistic performances, discussion groups and round tables with references to communication. New this year include audiovisual screenings and technical workshops. Confirmed attendees include university professor Zélia Amador, activist of the Black Movement and founder of the Center for Studies and Defense of Black People of Pará (Cedenpa), who will be honored; Erisvan Guajajara, journalist and indigenous activist and founder of the Coletivo Mídia Indígena; and Nay Jinkss, visual artist and LGBTQIAPN+ activist.

“The FALA! Festival is a very important moment for Brazilian journalism, with a greater debate on journalism and culture. The meeting includes diversity in the way it should be approached, as central. It is a meeting of black people debating the central themes of the country and communication”, said the co-founder of Alma Preta Jornalismo and director of the FALA! Institute, Pedro Borges.

The edition brings the re-release of the book Griots and Digital Technologiesby authors Thiane Neves Barros and Tarcízio Silva and presentation to the public of the reporting and audiovisual production work of the communication collectives of Pernambuco – Redes do Beberibe, Portal Afoitas, Fórum de Juventudes do Cabo and Eficientes – chosen through a notice launched at the end of the last edition, held in 2023, in Recife.

“The festival reaches its fifth edition surrounded by positive expectations. Like Salvador and Recife, Belém is a booming city in the socioeconomic field and known for its rich cultural scene. We hope that the FALA! Festival will be a space for exchange and learning among all participants,” said the founder and editor-in-chief of website 1 Straight Talk and director of the FALA! Institute, Rosenildo Ferreira.
