Podemos, through two of its representatives, Irene Montero and Pablo Iglesias, requested disaggregated data from the elections to confirm Maduro’s victory
Podemos MEP Irene Montero on Monday, August 19, called on President Nicolás Maduro to show the voting records from the presidential elections held on July 28 in order to provide evidence of his victory, as announced that day by the National Electoral Council (CNE).
Montero said that democracy must prevail in Venezuela without interference from outside and always respecting the sovereignty of the people. That is why he joins the call made by several countries to see the minutes in order to “respect the sovereign will of the Venezuelan people, who are the ones who have to decide their government.”
For his part, the former vice president of the Spanish government and leader of Podemos, Pablo Iglesias, joined Montero’s call to demand the publication of disaggregated data from the elections. He said that, although he believes that the opposition “manipulated” the minutes that it posted on a website, it is logical that there are doubts about the elections because, unlike in 2013, the complete official minutes and the disaggregated official results are not known.

Earlierthe High Representative of the European Union for Foreign Policy, Josep Borrell, expressed his concern about the situation in Venezuela, warning that if there is no verification of the electoral data and President Nicolás Maduro insists on his electoral victory on July 28, a “serious crisis” could occur in the country.
“If Maduro insists on saying that he has won and does not want to understand that, for the international community, without verification there is no acceptance of results, Venezuela could enter into a serious crisis. We are all trying to prevent this from happening,” Borrell said in an appearance before the media.
He criticized the fact that the president, more than 15 days before the elections, has still not shown the voting records, since in his opinion he is refusing to do so, and reiterated that if the results are not verified, Maduro’s victory cannot be accepted.
