After the Spanish media ABC published an exhaustive investigation on Xavier Vendrell, a Spanish businessman close to President Gustavo Petro, in which he warns that he would be getting rich with millionaire contracts in Colombia, The Colombian head of state published a long message on his social networks in which he defended Vendrell.

“Is a businessman bad because he is a friend of Petro? And on the other hand, Alejandro Santodomingo’s friends are good because they are his friends? What is the difference? What is the moral authority of the Santodomingos and CaracolTV to define which foreign investment is good? Is it only the one that helps them get richer?” Petro wrote on his X account.

In the same message, the head of state added: “Has Xavier Vendrell stolen a peso from the national budget or does he have contracts with the national government? Or he doesn’t have any and they are only denouncing him because Xavier is from Esquerra Republicana, a legal party in Spain, which fights for an independent Catalonia, a conflict in which we did not intervene, and which has governed Catalonia even with Luis Companys in Republican Spain, who was shot by Franco; for Caracol the political descendants of those shot by Franco for having been from Republican Spain are bad and the political descendants of Franco, good?”.

According to the Spanish media report, Vendrell is known for his past as a member of the Catalan terrorist group Terra Lliure and for some time now it has been the beneficiary of multi-million dollar contracts in Colombia related to waste management projects in some twelve cities in the country.

The Spanish media also highlighted in its publication comments that Vendrell allegedly made about Petro.
