Producers and Mida analyze the future of onions in Coclé

The future of onions in the province of Coclé was discussed at a meeting attended by nearly 150 small producers of this sector, along with the Minister of Agricultural Development, Roberto Linares, and local and government authorities.

The event called for the rescue of agriculture was called: Vision and Future of the Onion 2024 – 2029.

Upon his arrival at the meeting, Minister Linares toured the abandoned Onion Drying Plant, which he described as another monument to neglect, due to the poor condition of the facility, “a project so important for the people of Natá and it is in total abandonment.”

In her welcoming remarks, Representative Dana Castañeda, who was present at the meeting, advocated for the drying plant to become a post-harvest center.

For his part, Minister Linares made all MIDA technicians and those from institutions in the sector available to producers to guide them towards improving their crop yields.

During the meeting, industry leaders mentioned that to improve onion cultivation, technical assistance and training are needed; supervision and management; development of new technologies; and harvest and post-harvest for the safety of the food produced in this region.

Present at the meeting were Irving González, Governor of Coclé; Nilo Murillo, Director of IMA; Alexandra Rodríguez, General Director of IDIAP; José Pablo Ramos, Cold Chain, among other authorities.
