Saab does not rule out that María Corina Machado will be charged by the Prosecutor's Office

Tarek William Saab warned that María Corina Machado and other people could be charged soon for the post-election situation

The prosecutor appointed by the defunct constituent assembly, Tarek William Saab, warned that the founder of Vente Venezuela, María Corina Machado, could be charged – along with other politicians and opposition entities – for being “intellectual authors” of the situation generated after the elections of July 28 in which the death of at least 25 people was reported.

Saab, in an interview with Latest News and published on Monday, August 19, he stated that the protests against the election results – in which the CNE claimed that President Nicolás Maduro was the winner – were planned progressively and have their basis – according to the prosecutor – in what he called the “hybrid war” against the country.

He insisted that fraud was committed in the primaries of the Unitary Platform, which had been orchestrated by Machado, who he said was being held responsible for the deaths in the post-election protests.

He stressed that the Attorney General’s Office has opened investigations into the website of the Comando con Venezuela where the minutes were posted that, according to the opposition, certify González Urrutia’s victory and reiterated that it is the same modus operandi that they used in the primaries.

«It’s the same thing they did with the National Primary Commission and the Súmate mess to say that instead of 300 thousand people, 2 and a half million people voted in those primaries, Jesús María told me. I asked him why he registered a person (in those primaries) who was disqualified. He told me that it was blackmail, a mechanism of pressure, of extortion so that the Dialogue Table would be forced to withdraw the disqualification of María Corina Machado so that she could be a candidate,» said Tarek William Saab.

He said that investigations are continuing, including a sentence for an open trial against Machado in 2004 for alleged conspiracy, explaining that they follow “the same modus operandi” of using Súmate and working with flat signatures, in order to have a “pretext to conspire.”

He fiscal imposed by the defunct constituent assembly, Tarek William Saab, denied early August that there are arrest warrants against opposition leader María Corina Machado and the presidential candidate of the Unitary Platform, Edmundo González Urrutia.

“I would like to see them. Where are they? Present those orders so I can see them, but that doesn’t exist at the moment. There is a general investigation that has had the direct effect of arresting people who set fire to public buildings with people inside. That is very serious,” he said during an interview with Caracol Radio.
