Don't have a passport?: Countries you can travel to with just your digital ID

Traveling to another country usually involves meeting certain requirements. Perhaps the most important thing is to have a passport, a document that will allow you not only to secure your entry (in most cases), but also to identify yourself as a Colombian abroad.

Although the passport is an essential identification mechanism for any citizen who wishes to travel internationally, There are alternatives for those who do not have this document, such as the digital ID card.

According to the National Registry, The ID card is validated as a travel document in eight countries members of the Andean Community of Nations (CAN) and the Southern Common Market (Mercosur), thanks to multilateral agreements that standardize this identification.

Specifically, Colombians can enter Argentina, Brazil, Paraguay, Uruguay, Bolivia, Chile, Ecuador and Peru. Please note that the physical version is also required to be carried for verification by the authorities.

Rates to consider

At the moment, obtaining a digital ID card costs $63,050. In the case of citizens who turn 18, the procedure is free of charge, since the document is included with the issuance of the document in its physical version.

Now, remember that the passport allows you to enter a wider number of countries (more than 50). The processing fees for this document in 2024 are $207,000 (regular), $315,000 (executive) and $136,000 (diplomatic).
