Javier Corral denounces the governor of Chihuahua for illegal deprivation

In a statement, the former PAN member’s law firm and defense attorney, Schütte y Delsol Abogados, said that Mexico City officials, in accordance with the law, prevented an “illegal detention and the continued commission of crimes within the territory of their jurisdiction,” since they assured that there was no authorization for the capture and transfer of Javier Corral.

“Given the well-founded fear that they will once again try to deprive him of his freedom, we filed an indirect amparo suit on behalf of the former governor in order to obtain a provisional suspension,” said the lawyer, who assured that this measure that prevents him from being arrested was granted on August 16 of this year.

The defense mentioned that Javier Corral is not a fugitive from justice, and therefore fully enjoys the exercise of his political rights, and emphasized that the person who is under this character is the person who flees from the authorities and not the one who defends himself legally.

After that, Javier Corral will be able to take office as senator on September 1.

On August 14, Chihuahua authorities went to a restaurant in Mexico City to arrest the former PAN member, who was accused of corruption and embezzlement; however, the Mexico City Prosecutor’s Office prevented the arrest because Chihuahua authorities did not request their collaboration. By law, police from another state cannot execute arrest warrants outside their territory without the collaboration of the other federal entity.
