Mass layoffs of state workers affect several ministries, at least 400 from Mefcca are already unemployed

The massive “sweep” of state workers, announced by the vice-dictator and government spokesperson Rosario Murillo, as part of the government “reorganization”, has already begun to be felt in some ministries such as the Ministry of Family, Community, Cooperative and Associative Economy (MEFCCA) where at least 400 workers have already been sent to unemployment, according to information obtained by the media outlet Confidencial.

The dismissals of public officials at all levels are also reportedly being carried out at the Office of the Human Rights Ombudsman (PDDH), where some 45 officials have already been forced to submit their resignations, according to a report published by 100% Noticias.

Other state institutions that are also being affected by the layoffs caused by the “government reorganization” are the Ministry of Health (Minsa), where specialist doctors, general doctors, nurses, laboratory technicians, technicians and even security guards will be fired.

Other state entities that, according to information obtained by Confidencial, are applying “dismissals due to mandatory resignation” are the Ministry of Development, Industry and Commerce (Mific), where 25 workers have been dismissed so far, and the National University of Engineering (UNI), which belongs to the State, where 25 employees have also been sent home.

At Mefcca, the dismissals began on Tuesday, August 13, according to sources close to the institution, cited by the media.

UNI has also begun sending its workers to unemployment.

In this institution, workers from the delegations in Bluefields, León, Chinandega, Masaya and Granada were dismissed. In each departmental office, between 20 and 26 employees were fired.

The Ortega-Murillo dictatorship is carrying out a supposed process of “ordering, restructuring and redesigning” the state, with which it seeks to “promote savings and efficiency in spending and public management,” according to a press release ordered to be published by the regime through its propaganda media.

Under this plan, thousands of workers will become unemployed. Analysts have stated that dictators Daniel Ortega and Rosario Murillo are firing public workers who are not fans of the regime or those Sandinistas who no longer go out to applaud all Sandinista activities.

The State employs at least between 170,000 and 200,000 people, including all workers in bureaucratic institutions, state-owned companies and decentralized entities, as well as the country’s mayors.
